Hong Kong summit asks whether old investment playbooks still work

Hundreds of finance leaders meet in Hong Kong this week under a theme that doubles as a question: "Rethinking the Playbook". The fifth annual Global Financial Leaders' Investment Summit, organised by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, will test whether traditional investment strategies still hold against escalating geopolitical friction and the rapid ascent of artificial intelligence.
The backdrop is unsettled. US President Donald Trump has been threatening a new round of strikes on Iran, and Friday's sharp sell-off in technology stocks has raised doubts about the sustainability of the AI investment boom. Attendees will weigh macroeconomic headwinds including elevated interest rates and growing regulatory scrutiny of AI.
Investors have been looking for answers, or at least clear clues, on how to position portfolios through both pressures. The summit's agenda puts those questions in front of the financial heavyweights best placed to answer them.
According to Token Times, the gathering is being framed as a platform to address exactly these topics, with the HKMA hosting the event for the fifth consecutive year.
