SBP reserves rise to $21.47 billion in week to October 9, 2026

The State Bank of Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves rose by $16 million in the week ending October 9, 2026, to $21.47 billion, according to data released by the central bank on Thursday. Total liquid foreign reserves stood at $26.863 billion, with net reserves held by commercial banks at $5.394 billion.
The weekly increase follows a $39 million rise in SBP reserves the previous week, which took them to $21.439 billion, itself following an $11 million increase the week before. The central bank also recorded a $3.06 billion jump earlier, largely supported by proceeds from Pakistan's Eurobond issuance.
Reserves have fluctuated in recent months due to external financing inflows and debt repayments. In early September, SBP reserves increased by $1.21 billion following government commercial loan inflows, while a $229 million decline was recorded in late July amid external debt repayments.
In June, the central bank's reserves rose by $611 million to $16.53 billion, mainly supported by financing from multilateral institutions. Earlier, reserves climbed by $1.21 billion in the week ending May 15, reaching $17.08 billion following inflows under the International Monetary Fund's Extended Fund Facility and Resilience and Sustainability Facility, along with proceeds from a Panda bond. The SBP also recorded a $730 million weekly increase following proceeds from a Eurobond issuance.
