How much to buy so a stop-loss costs only what you chose to risk.
Your result
Buy 1,000 units. If the stop-loss is hit, you lose about Rs 5,000, or 1% of your account.
These are example numbers. Change them to your own.
- Rest of your account (99%): Rs 495,000
- Amount at risk (1%): Rs 5,000
- Quantity to buy
- Position value
- Rs 100,000
- Amount at risk
- Rs 5,000
- Share of account
- 20%
How this works
Amount at risk = account × risk %. Quantity = amount at risk ÷ the gap between entry and stop-loss. A stop-loss may fill at a worse price in a fast market, so the real loss can be larger.
