Binance reopens five more currencies for withdrawal as outflow hits $5.16bn
Binance has reopened withdrawals in five more fiat currencies, taking the total pulled off the exchange since a hack hit the platform to $5.165bn, according to DefiLlama data cited by Token Times. The newly unlocked currencies are the US dollar, the UAE dirham, the Vietnamese dong, the Philippine peso and the Indonesian rupiah.
They join a list already restored that spans the Japanese yen, Brazilian real, Mexican and Argentine pesos, Bahraini and Kuwaiti dinars, euro, Swiss franc, Czech koruna, Hungarian forint, Polish zloty, Romanian leu, Swedish krona and a string of African currencies including the Congolese franc, Kenyan shilling, Sierra Leonean leone, Ugandan shilling, both CFA francs and the Zambian kwacha.
Binance said it began restoring withdrawals gradually on Sunday. After an initial spike, withdrawal volumes eased and began to stabilise while deposits stayed high, the company said. Between 06:00 and 15:30 UTC on 1 November the platform processed $4.649bn in withdrawals against $1.01bn in deposits, a net outflow of roughly $3.64bn.
That net figure equals about 2.1% of the $171bn in total assets the exchange holds, based on its latest proof-of-reserves snapshot dated 28 October. Binance said it has completed a fresh reserves snapshot and begun work on a zero-knowledge proof calculation, with the updated report to be posted on its proof-of-reserves site soon.
The episode puts the resilience of exchange reserves and the transparency of proof-of-reserves reporting back under scrutiny, a question that matters for users in every market Binance serves, including those whose local currencies are only now becoming withdrawable again.
