Petrol cut to Rs398.30 a litre as diesel rises to Rs396.24

The federal government reduced the price of petrol by Re0.66 to Rs398.30 per litre and raised the price of high-speed diesel by Re0.52 to Rs396.24 per litre, effective Saturday, 10 October 2026, according to reported figures from a Petroleum Division notification. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised ex-depot prices on Friday under the federal government's petroleum pricing mechanism, the notification states.
The reported adjustment could not be reconciled with separately supplied daily price data, which put petrol at Rs398.96 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs395.72 per litre on 9 October, before the change took effect. A Re0.66 cut to Rs398.30 is also inconsistent with that 9 October petrol rate. The official notification had not been verified at the time of writing, so the latest prices should be treated as unconfirmed.
The reported cut follows a steep run-up earlier in the month. According to the supplied daily data, petrol rose from Rs387.40 per litre on 1 October to Rs398.96 on 9 October, an increase of Rs11.56 per litre in nine days that brought the rate close to Rs400. The rate reached Rs390.66 on 2 October, held at Rs392.76 from 3 to 5 October, then climbed to Rs393.64 on 6 October, Rs394.83 on 7 October, Rs396.65 on 8 October and Rs398.96 on 9 October.
Higher diesel prices feed into the cost of moving goods. Diesel powers much of Pakistan's freight and public transport, so an increase can raise operating costs for transport operators, logistics companies and businesses that depend on diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. That can add to the expense of distributing food, agricultural produce and other essential commodities. Whether those costs reach consumers would depend on market conditions and on decisions by transporters and businesses.
For motorists, the month's movement has meant higher costs for commuting and other daily travel, adding to household budgets already under pressure from living costs. Petroleum prices in Pakistan are set by the federal government under a mechanism administered with OGRA, which revises ex-depot rates.
